FELIZ 2010

Para erros há perdão;
Para fracassos, chance;
Para amores impossíveis, tempo.
De nada adianta cercar um coração vazio
Ou economizar alma.
O romance cujo fim é instantâneo
ou indolor não é romance.
Não deixe que a saudade sufoque,
Que a rotina acomode,
Que o medo impeça de tentar.
Desconfie do destino e acredite em você.
Gaste mais horas realizando que sonhando,
Fazendo que planejando,
Vivendo que esperando.
Porque embora quem quase morre esteja vivo,
Quem quase vive já morreu.

"You said you'd be there for me In times of trouble when I need you and I'm down ..."

This song is just what I feel...

You said you'd be there for me
In times of trouble when I need you and I'm down
And likewise you need friendship
It's from my side pure love but I see lately things have been changing
You have goals to achieve
But the roads you take abroad are heartless
That wants you make another way
You throw stones
Can you see that I am human I am breathing
But you don't give a damn

Chorus:

Can you feel my heart is beating
Can you see the pain you're causing
Can you feel my heart is beating
Can you see the pain you're causing

Blood blood blood.... blood is rushing

And now the world is asleep
How will you ever wake her up when she is deep in her dreams, wishing
And yet so many die
And still we think that it is all about us
It's all about youYou sold your soul to the evil and the lust
and the passion and the money and you
See innocent ones die,
people hunger for decades suffer under civilized armedrobbers,
modern slaveholders

Chorus

Can you feel my heart is beating
Can you see the pain you're causing
Can you feel my heart is beating
Can you see the pain you're causing
Blood blood blood.... keeps rushing

Evaded, eliminated, erased, interrogated
Our tradition, our love for our fellow countrymen, our property, our resources - our pride
Can you feel my heart beatingno no no....you don't

Chorus:

Can you feel my heart is beating
Can you feel the pain you're causing
Can you feel my heart is beating
Can you feel the pain you're causing

Wise text by PAULO COELHO

What is a personal calling? It is God’s blessing, it is the path that God chose for you here on Earth. Whenever we do something that fills us with enthusiasm, we are following our legend. However, we don’t all have the courage to confront our own dream.

Why?

There are four obstacles. First: we are told from childhood onwards that everything we want to do is impossible. We grow up with this idea, and as the years accumulate, so too do the layers of prejudice, fear and guilt. There comes a time when our personal calling is so deeply buried in our soul as to be invisible. But it’s still there.

If we have the courage to disinter dream, we are then faced by the second obstacle: love. We know what we want to do, but are afraid of hurting those around us by abandoning everything in order to pursue their dream. We do not realize that love is just a further impetus, not something that will prevent them going forwards. We do not realize that those who genuinely wish us well want us to be happy and are prepared to accompany us on that journey.

Once we have accepted that love is a stimulus, we come up against the third obstacle: fear of the defeats we will meet on the path. We who fight for our dream, suffer far more when it doesn’t work out, because we cannot fall back on the old excuse: “Oh, well, I didn’t really want it anyway.” We do want it and know that we have staked everything on it and that the path of the personal calling is no easier than any other path, except that our whole heart is in this journey. Then, we warriors of light must be prepared to have patience in difficult times and to know that the Universe is conspiring in our favor, even though we may not understand how.

I ask myself: are defeats necessary?

Well, necessary or not, they happen. When we first begin fighting for our dream, we have no experience and make many mistakes. The secret of life, though, is to fall seven times and to get up eight times.

So, why is it so important to live our personal calling if we are only going to suffer more than other people?

Because, once we have overcome the defeats – and we always do – we are filled by a greater sense of euphoria and confidence. In the silence of our hearts, we know that we are proving ourselves worthy of the miracle of life. Each day, each hour, is part of the good fight. We start to live with enthusiasm and pleasure. Intense, unexpected suffering passes more quickly than suffering that is apparently bearable; the latter goes on for years and, without our noticing, eats away at our soul, until, one day, we are no longer able to free ourselves from the bitterness and it stays with us for the rest of our lives.

Having disinterred our dream, having used the power of love to nurture it and spent many years living with the scars, we suddenly notice that what we always wanted is there, waiting for us, perhaps the very next day. Then comes the fourth obstacle: the fear of realizing the dream for which we fought all our lives.

Oscar Wilde said: ‘each man kills the thing he loves’. And it’s true. The mere possibility of getting what we want fills the soul of the ordinary person with guilt. We look around at all those who have failed to get what they want and feel that we do not deserve to get what we want either. We forget about all the obstacles we overcame, all the suffering we endured, all the things we had to give up in order to get this far. I have known a lot of people who, when their personal calling was within their grasp, went on to commit a series of stupid mistakes and never reached their goal – when it was only a step away.

This is the most dangerous of the obstacles because it has a kind of saintly aura about it: renouncing joy and conquest. But if you believe yourself worthy of the thing you fought so hard to get, then you become an instrument of God, you help the Soul of the World and you understand why you are here.

Smile by Charles Chaplin

Smile, though your heart is aching
Smile, even though it's breaking
When there are clouds in the sky...
You'll get by...

If you smile
With your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just...

Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just...

Smile, though your heart is aching
Smile, even though it's breaking
When there are clouds in the sky
You'll get by...

If you smile
Through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile...

That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile

Un lindo poema

Desmayarse, atreverse, estar furioso,
áspero, tierno, liberal, esquivo,
alentado, mortal, difunto, vivo,
leal, traidor, cobarde y animoso;

no hallar fuera del bien centro y reposo,
mostrarse alegre, triste, humilde, altivo,
enojado, valiente, fugitivo,
satisfecho, ofendido, receloso;

huir el rostro al claro desengaño,
beber veneno por licor süave,
olvidar el provecho, amar el daño;

dar la vida y el alma a un desengaño;

My office - reformulated

I bought new furniture...

Reflection.... disappointment...

It comes all to my mind.... I need to think positive... I know that.... but it is easier to say than to do, right? I feel that my life is pointless. My niece is what makes me live. If it wasn't for her? No, you know what? Not even that, I have to live, there's no point in saying that it is for this or that. I live because I have to. The problem is that I don't live... I survive. Everyday I survive to another day. Everyday I wake up with the same feeling, the feeling of emptiness, that my life is useless. What should I do?

Nothing right? There's nothing I can do. Or maybe there is but I'm just to lazy to do it.

Fuck.

ESCREVER BEM

The importance of knowing names

By Paulo Coelho

Zilu asked Confucius:
‘If King Wen were to ask you to govern the country, what would your first action be?’
‘I would learn the names of my advisers.’
‘What nonsense! That is hardly a matter of great concern to a prime minister.’
‘A man cannot hope to receive help from what he does not know,’ replied Confucius. ‘If he does not understand Nature, he will not understand God. In just the same way, if he does not know who is at his side, he will have no friends. Without friends, he will be unable to draw up a plan. Without a plan, he cannot direct anyone’s actions. Without direction, the country will plunge into darkness, and even dancers will not know which foot to put down next. So an apparently banal action - learning the name of the person at your side - can make an enormous difference. The besetting sin of our time is that everyone wants to put things right immediately, and they forget that in order to do so you need a lot of people.’

Disappointment

When we admire someone, we see that person as someone who is perfect. We tend never to see their faults or their imperfections. I am like that, to me the person I admire is perfect. Or at least it was. Now I don't see that perfection. To tell you the truth, all I see right now are imperfections. I know that people have their own life and we have to respect that. At first, I didn't understand but now I do. I never do more than I should. The problem is when people give us false hopes, when they play with our feelings. I feel sad because of that. I am a person who tries to be there for my friends. I don't expect that someone plays with my feelings. Specially someone who I admire so much. I have no idea why the person does that but if it is some kind of punishment, then let me tell you that I have been punished enough. Believe me.

I'm sad and disappointed. Hope this feeling goes on real fast.

Teaching the horse to fly

By Paulo Coelho

Let us divide the word ‘preoccupation’ into two parts - pre-occupation, that is, occupying your mind with something before it actually happens. This is what worrying is: trying to resolve problems that have not even had time to appear; imagining that things, when they do happen, will always turn out for the worst.
Naturally there are exceptions. One of them is the hero of this little story.
An old king of India condemned a man to the gallows. When the king had finished reading the sentence, the condemned man said:
‘You are a wise man, Your Majesty, and curious about everything that your subjects do. You respect gurus, sages, snake-charmers and fakirs. Well, when I was a child, my grandfather taught me how to make a white horse fly. Since there is no one else in the whole kingdom who knows how to do this, my life should be spared.’
The king immediately ordered a white horse to be brought.
‘I need to spend two years with this animal,’ said the condemned man.
‘All right, you will have two years,’ replied the king, already somewhat suspicious. ‘But if this horse does not learn to fly, you will be hanged.’
Overjoyed, the man left with the horse. When he reached his house, he found his whole family in tears.
‘Are you mad?’ they all cried. ‘Since when has anyone in this house known how to make a horse fly?’
‘Don’t worry,’ he said. ‘First of all, no one has ever tried to teach a horse to fly, and the horse might well learn. Secondly, the king is already very old and he might die in the next two years. Thirdly, the horse might die and then I’ll be given another two years to teach the new horse - not to mention the possibility of revolutions, coups d’état and general amnesties. And even if everything remains exactly as it is, I will still have gained two years of life with which I can do anything I like. Does that seem little to you?’

(…)
E foi então que apareceu a raposa:
- Bom dia, disse a raposa.
- Perguntou o principezinho. - Tu és bem bonita...
- Sou uma raposa, disse a raposa.
- Vem brincar comigo, - propôs o principezinho. - Estou tão triste...
- Eu não posso brincar contigo, disse a raposa. Não me cativaram ainda.
- Ah! Desculpa, disse o principezinho.
Após uma reflexão, acrescentou:
- Que quer dizer "cativar"?
- Tu não és daqui, disse a raposa. Que procuras?
- Procuro os homens, disse o principezinho. Que quer dizer "cativar"?
- Os homens, disse a raposa, têm fuzis e caçam. É bem incómodo! Criam galinhas também. É a única coisa interessante que fazem. Tu procuras galinhas?
- Não, disse o principezinho. Eu procuro amigos.
- Exactamente, disse a raposa.
- Começo a compreender, disse o principezinho. Existe uma flor... eu creio que ela me cativou...
- É possível, disse a raposa. Vê-se tanta coisa na Terra...
- Oh! Não foi na Terra, disse o principezinho.
A raposa pareceu intrigada:
- Num outro planeta?
- Sim.
- Há caçadores nesse planeta?
- Não.
- Que bom! E galinhas?
- Também não.
- Nada é perfeito, suspirou a raposa.
Mas a raposa voltou à sua ideia.
- Minha vida é monótona. Eu caço as galinhas e os homens me caçam.
Então será maravilhoso quando me tiveres cativado. O trigo, que é dourado, fará lembrar-me de ti. E eu amarei o barulho do vento no trigo...
Tenho amigos a descobrir e muitas coisas a conhecer.
- Perguntou o principezinho.
No dia seguinte o principezinho voltou.
- Teria sido melhor voltares à mesma hora, disse a raposa. Quanto mais a hora for chegando, mais eu me sentirei feliz.
A quinta-feira então é o dia maravilhoso!
Assim o principezinho cativou a raposa.
- Quis, disse a raposa.
- Mas tu vais chorar! - Disse o principezinho.
- Vou, disse a raposa.
- Vai rever as rosas.
Ela é agora única no mundo.
E as rosas estavam desapontadas.
É a minha rosa.
E voltou, então, à raposa:
- Adeus, disse ele...
- Adeus, disse a raposa. Eis o meu segredo.

Viaja leve. Leva sempre duas malas. Numa estão os objectos úteis. Noutra estão os objectos que dão prazer."

"Sabedoria oriental: o tolo soma ferramentas.

This will pass

By Paulo Coelho
The Sufi tradition tells the story of a king who was surrounded by wise men. One morning, as they talked, the king was quieter than usual.
"What is wrong, Your Highness?" - asked one of the wise men.
"I’m confused," replied the king. "At times I am overcome by melancholy, and feel powerless to fulfill my duties. At others, I am dizzy with all power I have. I’d like a talisman to help me be at peace with myself."
The wise men - surprised by such a request - spent long months in discussion. In the end, they went to the king with a gift.
"We have engraved magic words on the talisman. Read them out loud whenever you are too confident, or very sad," they said.
The king looked at the object he had ordered. It was a simple silver and gold ring, but with an inscription:
"This will pass."

And what is a good teacher?

By Confucius

And what is a good teacher?
Someone who questions everything he teaches. Old ideas cannot enslave a man, because they change and take on new forms. So let us use the philosophical riches of the past, but without forgetting the challenges that the present world sets before us.

And what is a good student?
Someone who listens to what I say, but adapts my teachings to his life and never follows them blindly. Someone who looks not just for employment, but for a job that brings him dignity. Someone who does not seek to be noticed, but to do something notable.’

Teenager's Stress

I've asked my students to play a simple game and this is the result. First, we have done in Portuguese, so that they could understand. Then in English. They have really done a great work.
;)

7º C - Escola Avelar Brotero

In English:

Teenagers lead with lots of stress.
It's tiring but it's cool.
Cool is watching TV
and I like watching it.
It's also "dog".
Good is me, who likes
chocolate. And chocolate
is like being a teenager:
it can be cool.
But cool is also God,
who is pure,
like milk.

Another class, same exercise

Adoro o meu melhor amigo
é tão giro!

Giro é o mundo,
Mundo é
?

7º A - Avelar Brotero

In English:

Teenagers are sometimes hard to deal
with...
Pizza is good.
And good things don't always happen
And it is life
Which is good too.
Friends are cool in teenager's time
To live in adolescence is complicated,
Is hard, specially loving someone that doesn't love us back.
You are so cute
Cute is everything outside school.
School is good
and that's life

Pablo Neruda

Muere lentamente quien no viaja,
quien no lee,
quien no oye música,
quien no encuentra gracia en sí mismo.

Muere lentamente
quien destruye su amor propio,
quien no se deja ayudar.

Muere lentamente

Muere lentamente

Muere lentamente
¡Vive hoy!
¡Arriesga hoy!
¡Hazlo hoy!
¡No te dejes morir lentamente!
¡NO TE IMPIDAS SER FELIZ!
